Week 40 {Madison Maternity Photographer}

GET OUT OF MY BELLY! Oops, sorry. Don’t mind me, I’m just scolding my unborn child. Yes everyone, unborn, as in past my expected due date, as in momma is getting worked up over here. Today marks day 6 past the “bun in the oven” timer I was given, and when you are really hungry for that bun, 6 days is an excruciating wait! Everyone around me keeps saying that baby will decide to make its appearance when it’s ready, but what about me? I’m so stinking ready it is unbelievable. And I’ve tried everything to get this baby going. I’ve done spicy food, lots and lots of spicy food, which has just resulted in me having to buy another industrial pack of TUMS. I’ve eaten the pineapple, done jumping jacks, ran up and down the stairs, sat on an exercise ball, drank herbal tea, taken essential oils, gotten a pedicure, tried doing acupressure at home, and many others. I’ve come up with no baby and just major disappointment, humph.

On Tuesday I even decided to extend my usual walk with the dogs. Before pregnancy, I’d like to run around my neighborhood. It’s filled with lots of hills, a golf course next door, and a cute little park all surrounded by country roads. So, I figured a 3 mile walk might do the trick. So I leashed up the pooches and headed out the door into a bright, sunny afternoon. About 2 miles in, the wind picked up, the sky suddenly got dark, and BOOM the storm clouds opened. What in the WHAT???!!! Here I am, 40 weeks pregnant, walking two large dogs who are terrified of thunder, a mile from home, and with no umbrella. So what do I do? I start running, or what I can best describe as running. This is no easy task while in flip flops, but then add in all of the other confounding factors and you’ve got yourself a total freak show there my friends. The situation itself was just so ludicrous and unimaginable that I couldn’t help but bust out laughing, with runny mascara and dragging dogs and all. Of course the moment I hit my street, the sky cleared to an amazing shade of blue, and yet I was left to waddle the last few block home in my squishy sandals and total embarrassment. Ay yi yi.

I did have a thought of hope that this freak rain storm during my long walk would encourage the baby to come out and cheer me up, but no, this nugget is a stubborn one. So as I approach week 41 this weekend, I’m just crossing my fingers that when this baby comes it isn’t 25 pounds with a full head of hair, teeth, and asking what’s for dinner!

%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerAnd since I promised a nursery peek, here you go! I am a traveler! I love going places, seeing new things, trying new foods, and taking pictures of it all along the way of course. So when I was trying to think a a gender neutral nursery theme, of course travel was what I immediately was drawn to. So we incorporated maps and hot air balloons while trying to keep it subtle and serene. I love it, and I hope this baby will be mommy’s travel buddy! I mean, it’s already been to Spain, the Carolinas, and Tennessee with me!%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerBen bought me these bears throughout our relationship. The little one on the left is from a trip he took to Germany 10 years ago, the one in the middle is from the day I took the MCAT, and the one on the right is from when he was going off to college while I still had a year left of high school. They may not be completely cohesive with the theme, but they are deeply personal which I always think is a good thing!%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerAnd this book “Bob and Joe go Boating” was a book about two mice who go on a fishing trip written by Ben as a young tike. How cute is that?!%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerWe got pretty crafty when it came to the room. I had been watching HGTV when I saw this bubble light. I immediately went to the interwebs on a hunt for it. Instead, I found a link on how to make it! So we spent one Saturday morning putting this little guy together. I think the globes go well with the room over all%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerHere’s to crossing my fingers that baby will be here soon!

Week 39 {Madison Maternity Photographer}

So, tomorrow is my due date. That means I’ve finished 279 days of pregnancy, 279 days of wondering what this baby will look like, 279 days of waiting. Not like I’m counting or anything… But as I approach day 280, D-day as I like to call it, I can’t help being a little, ummm, let’s just say emotional. This whole pregnancy I’ve been patient, happy, myself. But now as the days tick down I am so grouchy having to wait 279 days and having this sinking feeling that even when I reach day 280 I’ll still be waiting. Yep, I’m having premonitions that this baby is going to make me wait, and wait, and wait some more. And that my friends does not make me happy! So I’m trying to preoccupy myself with lunch and dinner dates with friends, shopping, taking the dogs to the park, and veggin’ out on the couch. Hopefully the days go by fast and this little babe comes out soon!

And if you have any ideas on ways to cheer myself up, pour them on me! I need all of the suggestions I can get%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerHopefully next week I’ll be able to share some baby pictures with you all, and stay tuned for when I share our nursery. Plus, I’ll be able to start working again, and let me tell you how much I miss shooting sessions and weddings!

Week 38 {Madison Maternity Photographer}

Alright, so I take back what I said last week. I’m not ok waiting for this baby to come, and I want it now! If patience is a virtue, well then, I don’t have it. Nope, not one drop of patience up in here right now. I got up this morning and Ben asked me how I was feeling. I said “fine” all mopey, which then caused him to look at me with concern and ask what’s the matter. I of course then said, “I don’t WANT to feel fine! I want to feel not so fine. Like maybe this baby will be coming sooner rather than later not fine. But instead I feel great. Gah, why does it want to keep torturing me with this wait?” Which of course caused Ben to smile, kiss me on the forehead, and tell me to call him later if I need anything. Humph.Tomorrow is suppose to be a Super Moon though, so I’m crossing my fingers that it has some affect on me and the baby.

Besides not being patient any longer, I’ve developed a new fear. It’s the fear of my water breaking on someone’s furniture! I was at a fellow photographers grand opening for an awesome new studio space this last week, and I was terrified to sit down. Thoughts of sittings on her new, ivory tufted suede couch and then having my water break and ruin it seriously had my blood pressure up. Wouldn’t that have been horrible?! Luckily, this baby is stubborn and decided to stay put at that point, which I guess is a good thing.

And this heat wave! Oh my! My feet are three times their size lately, and it has nothing to do with blood pressure (thank goodness). I literally had to spend hours just sitting with my feet elevated on the couch yesterday for a minimal amount of swelling to go down. Yikes, they were a hot mess, but I did just get a pedicure on Monday, so i guess they could have looked worse%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer

Here’s to hoping this is the last picture of me pregnant!Highly doubtful, but a girl can hope right?!

%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerOh, I almost forgot to mention my baby puppy turned 3 this week! To celebrate I made her (and Angus) a peanut butter pancake breakfast, let them play in the pond and mud puddles behind our house for a good hour, and then topped it all off with a spaghetti and meatball dinner. Can we say spoiled? Of course I had to take a picture of my little nugget before she was allowed to indulge in her birthday festivities, and yes, I know she looks very unhappy. She’s a little camera shy which is pure torture for her camera toting mama. She’s still cute though%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerMmmmm, pancakes!%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer

Week 37 {Madison Maternity Photographer}

Alright Baby, you are now officially what they call full term. So, you know, any time you want to come out would be swell%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer

That’s right, this baby has made it to the point where when someone says to me, “Wow, it looks like it could be any day now.” I can legitimately respond with a big old YEP and a smile! And when the day comes you better believe I will be happy to get my body back to myself, oh and for this terrible acid reflux to say buh bye. Honestly though, it will be bitter sweet since my pregnancy has been so relaxed and really just uncomplicated. Yeah, I’ve gained weight {ugh} and a double chin, I’ve had reflux since the beginning {double ugh}, and if the temperature rises above 60 degrees I swell up like a encased sausage, but pregnancy is something I can do and is no longer an unknown. A baby on the other hand is a big black hole of worry and swirling what ifs!

I had lunch yesterday with a girlfriend who is also pregnant, and even though we promised not to, we started voicing our concerns as our due dates approach. Things like aneurysms during child birth, stolen babies, and babies rolling off of the changing table came up among other things. Yeah, they are crazy scenarios, but darn do they make me worry! If you’ve ever met my two fur babes, Angus and Jersey, you know how over protective I am of them, especially after some creepy man in a van tried stealing them! Yes, people do try to steal dogs, and those people should get punched in the throat… sorry I’m a little sensitive when it comes to theft of loved ones. Yeah, my paranoia is about to sky rocket once this little one is here. Yeesh, there is no hope for my worrying I fear. So instead of counting down the days and hoping, wishing, and praying for delivery soon, I’m going to relish in the fact that I know where this kid is at all times right now, even if it is just for another couple of weeks%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer

{Please excuse my choice of outfit. I’m clearly getting loopy and loosing my mind when it comes to fashion at this stage in pregnancy.}

nLIGHTn Tour {Workshop}

So this past weekend, I dragged myself along with the big ol’ belly to Milwaukee to participate in a workshop all centered around lighting techniques! Since I LURVE shooting in natural light, but sometimes that’s not enough for me.  I knew doing a workshop like this would help me push my boundaries on a wedding day when it came to varying lighting techniques. Sure I tote around multiple flashes, an LED light, light stands, remote triggers, etc. but I knew I wasn’t utilizing everything I owned to it’s full potential. So signing up for a 2 day training workshop taught by three masters in photography was a no brainer%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographerNow the question is will I implement these techniques I learned at all of my upcoming weddings this summer? Absolutely! I plan on mixing it up a bit with all of the knowledge I gained.

Here’s some edgy, contrasty images I took at the workshop. And if you are a photographer who is either struggling getting their lighting techniques down or just wanting to gain a little more education, I totally recommend this workshop!

The first images is unedited and taken without flash. To be honest, I didn’t allow enough recycle time before taking this image from the one I previously took, so the flashes didn’t fire. But the next image they did and you can see the difference here. This lighting is something I’ll definitely be trying out with engagement sessions and on weddings days this summer!%wedding photographer %tmadison wedding photographer
